Part time Position Available

The Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church has faithfully served the spiritual and cultural needs of the Norwegian and Nordic communities for over 100 years. Along with its neighbor Norway House, this “Norwegian Campus” partners with the local community as it continues to expand and evolve. The church’s programming and responsibilities have expanded beyond what a traditional church staff can effectively manage, so a new Program Development and Coordination position is being developed.

Job Description 

The Program Development and Coordination position involves: 

  • Management and growth of the large volunteer program.
  • Partner with planning committee chairs to coordinate and execute special events.
  • Work with Facilities Coordinator for volunteers needs for space rentals.
  • Applicants must be flexible in work hours, since many events occur on weekends and some evenings. Events may require in-person availability.
  • Work with the church council to review current programming and develop vision for programming growth.



  • Work with Council to recruit and train chairs for special events well in advance.
  • Work with volunteer chairs to collaboratively plan, organize, and implement church programs and events.
  • Improve publicity and outreach to increase program enrollment and revenue.
  • Liaise between committee chairs and communications team.
  • Participate in event debriefings for areas of success and opportunities for improvement and maintain records for each major event.
  • Develop clear descriptions of volunteer positions.
  • Help recruit needed volunteers from within the church and affiliated organizations.
  • Maintain contacts for the pool of volunteers and their areas of interest.
  • Conduct volunteer training as needed.
  • Maintain records of volunteers for each event and the roles they performed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with volunteers to obtain feedback and ensure volunteer satisfaction.
  • Organize an annual volunteer recognition event.
  • Maintain listing of connections members, staff, and volunteers have to other organizations, to leverage for better connections.
  • Work with members to develop/improve relationships with organizations with compatible missions* for mutual benefit.
  • Review current programs for inefficiencies and areas of missed opportunities. Develop ideas to meet high value missed opportunities.
  • Develop outreach to a larger pool of related organizations. *
  • Assist grant writers with content of grant applications.

Desirable Skills and Abilities 

  • Skills in organization and team coordination.
  • Personal volunteer experience.
  • Experience with volunteer recruitment.
  • Computer skills including data base management, and programs such as Data Management Software, Office, and Event Platforms.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and with discretion.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or at least one year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of Norwegian culture and language is desirable.


Job Type 

Part time, approximately 16 hours per week (varies); potential to expand.


Flexible, includes some weekends and evenings.
